World Ocean Day

In observation of World Ocean Day on June 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Alabama Aquarium is promoting the voices of young people as they express their concerns about our one world ocean. The ‘borrowed earth’ proverb reminds us that we are stewards of a home that we inhabit today but others will inhabit after we’re gone.

Visit the Alabama Aquarium to hear from young people in our community and join the discussion.

There will be student presentations about stingray safety, beach renourishment sustainability, microplastics, water quality, sea turtle conservation, Mardi Gras bead research, coral and more.

World Ocean Day supports collaborative conservation, working with its global network of youth leaders and 2,000+ organizations in 150+ countries. The United Nations has officially recognized 8 June since 2008.
