These Cheeseburgers ARE Paradise

Do you like yours with lettuce and tomato? (You know the rest of the song!) However you like your burger, here on the Alabama Gulf Coast you can roll up your sleeves, grab some extra napkins, and chow down on some of the best juicy, ooey-gooey, running-down-your-arm burgers you’ve ever had.

Our advice is to try them all and find your favorite, but if you’re short on time, here are our picks. Each one is unique and they are all truly paradise on a bun.

LuLu’s Crazy Sista’s Version

Lucy Buffett’s well-known brother may have made the song popular, but Lucy’s restaurant LuLu's delivers on the experience with an amazing half-pound burger that is seasoned with LuLu’s Salty Peppa Seasoning Blend. From there the crafting is up to you. The burger comes with lettuce, tomato, red onions and sweet pickles. Your choice of cheese is next with choices that range from cheddar to queso. We recommend the “Pa-menna” for a southern flair.

You could stop right there and have a perfectly wonderful burger. But hey, you’re on vacation at the beach and going a little overboard just seems right. LuLu’s is ready with a lineup of additional toppings like sautéed onions, sautéed mushrooms, jalapenos, grilled pineapple, bacon and guacamole. It’s the grilled pineapple that seals the deal for that tropical vacation feel.

However you build your Crazy Sista burger, don’t forget about those French fried potatoes. (You’ll be singing that song all day!)

Just Steps from the Sand

That headline isn’t an exaggeration. The famous Pink Pony Pub stretches out into the white sand beach in Gulf Shores, just a bit east of the intersection of Highway 59 and Beach Boulevard. It’s the perfect location when your day on the sand leaves you thirsty and hungry. Step up on the deck and order their World Famous Sourdough Cheeseburger and the adult drink of your choice.

This half-pound creation comes with caramelized onions, roasted garlic sauce, and melted Swiss cheese. Don’t want to stop there? You don’t have to. Pile on Applewood-smoked bacon, fresh jalapenos, more cheese, more onions… you decide. Pair it with tater tots and sit back and enjoy the view—on your plate and of the sugar-white sand Gulf Shores beach, the Gulf and the sky. It truly is paradise.

The Cove Bar and Grill has been a go-to spot for locals and visitors for more than 30 years. It is known as the place where you come for the burgers but stay for the live music and friendly atmosphere. 

All burgers are served dressed with lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles. Or you can go all out and choose one of their popular toppings like a fried egg or fried jalapenos for that extra kick. Next, just choose your side and you are good to go. 

Even if a burger is not what you’re craving at the moment, their menu has plenty of options to choose from, like the Philly cheese steak or their famous tuna nachos. 

While you wait for your food, sip on a cold beer and play a round of pool with new friends.

Tasty Burgers and Tasty Tunes

With a name like Bleus Burger, you can count on two things: the burgers are awesome, and the soundtrack is loaded with great blues tunes. It’s a pairing we love to savor.

The menu at Bleus Burger is jam-packed with cleverly named burgers like Black & Bleus, Boogie Woogie and Lucille, each showcasing toppings from gorgonzola cream sauce to parmesan truffle aioli. But our taste buds always come back to the Highway 61 burger for smoked cheddar, baby arugula, applewood-smoked bacon, candied jalapenos, crispy fried onions, and house BBQ sauce—all on a brioche roll.

Want to create your own burger masterpiece? No problem. The menu includes a lengthy selection of additional toppings from bacon jam to avocado spread. Whatever combination you choose, round it out with the beer-battered onion rings served with spicy garlic aioli.

The Best-Kept Secret

Sure, Fish River Grill is known for their fresh seafood, but their patty melt is one of the best-kept secrets around. Loaded with grilled onions, mushrooms, pepper jack cheese and their own special sauce, you’ll see why it’s a top-seller that locals can’t get enough of.

If you find yourself in the mood for bacon, you’ll have to try the juicy Hurricane Burger. Piled high with grilled onions, mushrooms, bacon, Swiss and American cheese, and jalapeños, it’s easy to see why it’s one of the chef’s favorites. 

Even after you’ve eaten your way through most of the menu, be sure to save room for dessert and indulge in some of their Sweet Thang Beignets (you can thank us later).

Come for the Bushwackers—Stay for the Burgers

If you come by water, Pirates Cove is nestled on the north shore of Arnica Bay across from Orange Beach. If you arrive by land, the route is County Road 95 in Josephine. Either way, your destination is the laid back home of bushwackers and Cove burgers. Oh, and the view is pretty sweet, too.

There is nothing fancy to say about the Cove burger. It is a simple combination of 1/3 lb. Angus beef, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, and their own special sauce. But that simplicity translates to a really, really good burger. If you can’t decide which side to have with your Cove burger, then get the half & half with fries & onion rings! Then pair it with a frosty bushwacker and beautiful bay views, and well, life doesn’t get much better.
