The City of Gulf Shores is gearing up for the first teen training series #Instarun. This 1 month running program is geared for teens who are encouraged to bring their cell phones/ipods to take and post pictures of their progress and runs together.
#Instarun is designed to get you ready to run the SHARK Adventure Run on the beach at the Flora-Bama the morning of July 4. Racers will wear a belt with flags that “sharks” will try to steal as you run down the beach. Runners who finish with at least 1 flag are eligible for awards.
Training is led by Holly Cade, Customer Service Representative and ACE certified personal trainer at the Bodenhamer Center. Cade explains, “#Instarun will be a fun way for teens to exercise and have fun with each other. She further states, “We will start out slow and build up our running all while listening to music, taking pictures and tracking our progress.” Her goal is for everyone to have fun while exercising and gain self-confidence with what they can accomplish.
The class is open to youth ages 12-17. Training begins June 2. Weekly runs will be held Mondays and Thursdays from 6-7 p.m. The cost is $50 for full Bodenhamer Center members and $60 for non-members. The race cost is included in the fee and all racers will receive a t-shirt and medal from the Flora-Bama.
