Extreme, for me, activities on our Gulf Coast

Dear Charlotte,

You know what I consider extreme sports, don’t you? 1. Carrying my chair out to relax on the beach and 2. Peeling those luscious Gulf shrimp… HA! But I bet the kids in your family want to be a bit more adventurous, and I have some suggestions for your next trip to see us in Gulf Shores!

First, take them all parasailing! YES! PARASAILING…the closest thing to flying that they’ll ever do! Don’t worry, the parasail companies here are just as concerned about your kids’ safety as you are! Just think…400, 600 even 800 feet up in the air over the Gulf of Mexico! You know that you’ll get MAJOR “cool points” for this one!

If that’s not enough fun, take them ziplining! Yep, before they know it they’ll be sailing about 40 miles an hour, 90 feet off the ground, over water and through the trees and LOVIN’ IT! The course at Gulf State Park is about a mile long and takes about two and a half hours, but you don’t have to go with them; they’ll have two highly trained guides along from beginning to end! You can count on this one as a “surefire” winner with the entire family!

If you’ve got a kid or two who would rather stay a little closer to the ground but still have fun, never fear!…I’ve got ideas! Paddle boards! Charlotte, seriously now, this is something YOU need to try. It’s so good for your balance and it’s actually a pretty good workout. If I can do it, YOU can, too! Paddleboard renters will teach you all you need to know! It’s like surfing on a big old surfboard, but you are in control…NOT the waves!

Another idea for the “less than daredevils” is the Banana Boat. Yep…just what it sounds like, it’s a big ol’ boat shaped like a banana. It’s hilarious, this humongous banana is pulled through the water by another boat while passengers straddle the giant fruit and hold on for dear life!  Qualifies as a MAJOR memory maker! Be sure someone onshore is taking video!

I’ve saved my personal favorite for last. It’s the Segway tours in the Gulf State Park. Not only is riding the Segway LOADS O’Fun (like zipping around in your own personal little space ship!) but at the same time you get to see a different part of this area, and learn (oops, did I say that word?) about the beautiful Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail.

And don’t worry about whether you will be able to get the hang of riding the Segway, there’s no judging! I promise, your guide will take as much time as you need to make sure that everyone is comfortable, even when it takes a little more time for some of us than others!!!

I’m telling you…I went with the big kids and I felt like Jane Jetson!!! We had a BLAST! Woo Hoo!

So there you go…enough adventures for the whole family! Just click here for contact info www.coast360.com/adventures.

Charlotte, I’m counting down the days til you and the kids and grandkids get here! We are having a fabulous summer and I can’t believe it’s about half over!  This is the perfect time to take a vacation before the kids head back to school! There is SO much to do for kids of all ages! Now hurry up! Can’t wait to see y’all!

Got a beach chair, right here, with your name on it!
