In the interest of being the best “Insider” possible, I’m about to break the silent code of the locals. It pains me to do so, but it must be done. My hope is that my fellow “islanders” will understand when I reveal our favorite secret…Sunset Cork Room Restaurant and Wine Bar. Sunset Cork Room has been around for years, right in the middle of Gulf Shores and it’s the kind of place where you go to see your friends, eat very well, drink your favorite adult beverage and dance (or not) the night away on the famous “Anthony Kaiser Dance Floor”.

Nina Martin knows the secret of making an upscale restaurant seem comfortable. Chef Rudy is one of the best on the island and prepares our local fresh seafood to perfection. The atmosphere is comfortable but special and the service you receive, whether it’s from Nina herself or precious Liz, is the kind that makes you feel right at home with friends.

Sunset Cork Room has live music on a regular basis and this week I enjoyed the songs of the extremely talented, Suzi Ragsdale. Suzi is a multi-talented singer/song-writer and the daughter of singer/songwriter, Ray Stevens. This night, among the fun was the gang from the  Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, as was popular local talent, Brent Burns. The staff from a local real estate company was having an after hours get-together and I was with my dear friend, Dee.

As the evening wound down, we all sang “Happy Birthday” to Chef Rudy, shared his cake and toasted him on his birthday. How much more warm and fuzzy can you get? Now, if you will excuse me, I’ve got some “splaining to do” to my local friends! I just let our secret Sunset Cork Room Restaurant and Wine Bar out of the bag!
