Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail, Orange Beach, AL
For those who desire a bit of variety and adventure when traveling, The Hugh Branyon Backcountry Trail in Orange Beach is a perfect family activity. This trail system was developed cooperatively by the City of Orange Beach and Gulf State Park (Alabama State Parks Division) to provide recreation and access to one of the last remaining maritime forest communities along the Alabama Gulf Coast.
The Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail is a treat for everyone at any age. The handicapped accessible asphalt and boardwalk trail winds through the pristine coastal forests within the City of Orange Beach and Alabama’s Gulf State Park. Nestled along freshwater lakes and streams, and less than a mile north of the Gulf of Mexico, the trail offers tons of fun and exercise, including walking, running, biking, rollerblading, nature hikes and bird watching. You can even take part in a two hour guided ECO-tour thru the natural habitats in a covered cart.
If your idea of adventure includes a little mystery, then check out the local legend of Catman, the half man/half cat creature that allegedly lurks thru the paths and swamps! For those with a little less adventurous spirit, you will most certainly enjoy strolling the 7.5 miles of unspoiled nature trails, including three trailheads, full service restrooms, a screened, covered picnic pavilion and a butterfly garden. So bring that picnic basket and enjoy!
However you decide to travel the unspoiled lowlands of the Alabama Gulf Coast, The Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail is a treat for the entire family, no matter what your idea of adventure!
