USSSA Global Sports World Series headlines summer sports schedule along Alabama’s beaches

GULF SHORES AND ORANGE BEACH, ALA. – Summer sports are sizzling along Alabama’s beaches with more than 20 athletic events on deck from June through August 2016. The beach cities will welcome a record number of teams competing in the United States Specialty Sports Association’s (USSSA) Global Sports World Series with over 800 baseball and 200 softball teams.

“For eight years running, the Sports Commission has hosted USSSA along with the cities of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, and we look forward to welcoming each player, coach, family and fan to our beach destination,” said Beth Gendler, vice president of sales for the Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission. “As we continue to grow the diversity of athletic events in the area, we will host a wide range of tournaments this summer including baseball, softball, soccer, dance, fishing, grappling and paddleboarding.”

The Sports Commission saw record-breaking numbers as a result of USSSA in 2015 with 53,111 room nights and $50.8 million in economic impact. The 2016 summer USSSA lineup taking place at the Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Foley Sportsplexes includes the following:

•    Global World Series 1: June 15-19
•    Coach Pitch World Series: June 21-25
•    Global World Series 2: June 22-25
•    Global World Series 3: June 29-July 1
•    Global World Series 4: July 6-9
•    Recreation World Series Softball Tournament: July 6-9
•    Global World Series 5: July 13-16
•    Softball C World Series: July 20-23
•    Global World Series 6: July 20-23
